PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - In 2022, the Parkersburg Salvation Army met their goal for their Red Kettle Drive.

Even though they met their goal, Corps Officer for Parkersburg Lt. Anthony Rowe said that an increase in costs posed a problem for them towards the end of 2023.

“I was talking with my bookkeeper when we were counting the money in the last week of November, and we were at around $15,000. I was like ‘This isn’t working,’ and she said to put it in God’s hands. I put it in God’s hands and boy did he he show up and show out; this community showed up and showed out so thank you,” said Lt. Rowe.

Everyone in the community pulled together again for the Red Kettle Drive and raised $89,500 of their $90,000 goal. The money raised will go a long way to help this year.

“It means we can continue to do what we do. Whether that is the shelter, the feeding programs, our canteen going out to Ravenswood or our social services. Because of this community, we can continue to do that,” said Lt. Rowe.

Even though we are only in February, Lt. Rowe is looking ahead to the next Red Kettle Drive and ways to keep the momentum going.

“You know, you want to go up but sometimes you just want to keep it right there to gauge things. What we want to do this year is to try to get businesses to sponsor kettles and stuff like that. That is something other Salvation Army units are doing, and it seems to be working,” said Lt. Rowe.
